Frog in the Well
Original puppet show musical performance written, produced, and performed by ArtJoy’s founders Toni Mikulka-Chang and Joey Chang, CelloJoe
Frog in the Well is a whimsical, heart-opening puppet show featuring original live music by CelloJoe and Toni Mikulka, performed with a magical cast of handmade puppets, Folkmanis puppets, and Toni’s original creations.
Inspired by a classic Taiwanese folk tale and CelloJoe’s Taiwanese heritage, this story is retold with a modern, playful, and musical twist. The tale follows a contented little frog who lives at the bottom of a well and absolutely refuses to leave—after all, there are plenty of flies to eat, and everything they need seems to be right there! One day, a curious and radiant hummingbird visits and tells the frog about the vast world beyond the well, full of beautiful flowers, open skies, and incredible adventures. But the frog won’t budge, convinced that their small world is more than enough.
When an unexpected turn of events forces the frog out of the well, the hummingbird swoops in to save the day—and to guide the frog on a journey of discovery, wonder, and transformation. Together, they explore a much bigger, brighter world than the frog ever imagined.
Told through live music, expressive puppetry, and visual storytelling, Frog in the Well is a charming and meaningful story about courage, curiosity, and the beauty of stepping beyond what is familiar to discover what is possible.
